U12 REP TACKLE FOOTBALL

Toronto Jr. Argos U12 Program competes in the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL).

•LEAGUE: Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL)
STYLE: 9vs9 Tackle Football

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:
For the first time, the Toronto Jr. Argos will enter the U12 Peewee division of the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL), the largest amateur tackle football league in the country.
The focus of the U12 program will be on the fundamentals, such as safe blocking and tackling techniques, development of leadership skills, and teamwork.  All U12 coaches will be certified, and a certified athletic therapist will be present for all practices and games.
The OSFL Peewee division uses an exciting 9v9 format (nine players on the field for each team), as opposed to the regular 12v12 Canadian football rules.  The 9v9 format encourages development of skills by allowing for more open field tackling.  A smaller sized football is used (Wilson TDJ), and the field is slightly narrower given the 9v9 format. Safety will be a top priority for coaches, therapists, and referees who will oversee the games.
No prior football experience is required.  Any young athlete born in 2012 or 2013 is welcome to be a Jr. Argo.  All that is needed is a desire to compete, dedication, and a passion for football.  Equipment will be provided to the players, with the exception of football cleats, and a mouthguard.
Those interested are welcome to contact the U12 head coach, Tom Durcan (thomaspdurcan@gmail.com), for questions and more information.
WHY US?
The U12 Jr. Argos Program provides players with a safe environment to learn the new skills of contact football. This is a great age to begin developing football specific skills. We educate all players and teach them how to be safe and responsible football players. We slowly begin positional training to help grow their football IQ. The goal is to help develop their movement abilities and foster further participation in physical activity or contact sport.

PRACTICES:
The landscape of football has changed drastically over the years. That is why we value time and preparation for all our athletes. In the winter months (Jan. Feb. March) we provide the opportunity for our athletes to have our first practices in an indoor facility (SMC Bubble). As the snow melts and the fields open up (end of March) we begin to practice outdoors twice a week on Tues & Thur. As games begin, we will continue to practice twice a week until the completion of the season.

GAMES:
The OSFL releases the Regular Season Game Schedule in the spring. All games are played either on a Saturday or a Sunday. We play 1 game a weekend. We are typically provided with an 6 game regular season schedule. 3 home games & 3 away games. The Regular Season begins in mid-May and finishes late-July. Playoffs are end-July to early-August.

TRAVEL:
We provide a school bus as our official team transportation for all of our players only to all away games that are outside of the GTA.

EQUIPMENT:
Football Equipment is loaned to fully paid players only. The player is responsible for the equipment for the duration of the season. This includes: helmet, shoulder pad, practice jersey, pants, belt, knee pads. For sanitary reasons, the player must provide his own mouth guard, girdle and cleats. The player keeps his game jersey as it is included in the registration fee. Severe fees/penalties are charged if equipment is not returned at the end of the year.

FACILITIES & ATHLETIC THERAPIST:
The Jr. Argos are one of the few programs in the city that provide Athletic Therapists to all of our practices and games. Our players are at all times in the presence of great care at home or on the road. We carefully select our facilities based on a great location that is accessible and safe.

COMMUNICATIONS:
The Toronto Jr. Argos use the TeamLinkt Portal. We use TeamLinkt for our Registration. Once a player is registered all communications will be done via the TeamLinkt app on your phone, or the TeamLinkt Website accessible on any browser. The full team schedule (times & locations of all practices and games) is displayed on the app. The app is the best way to communicate with your coaching staff as parents and players.

POLICIES:
Our different Procedures and Policies can be found on the TeamLinkt App as you are registering or on our website. Our refund policy is indicated as well.

General Info Misc:

• Uniforms: Football equipment is loaned to each player for the season.
• Players must be fully paid and registered to receive the equipment.
